Brahminy Kite
Photographer : © Amar-Singh HSS
Location :Ulu Dedap, Perak, Malaysia
Date : 7 February 2019
English synonyms:Red-backed Kite, White-headed Kite, White-and-red Eagle Kite, White-headed Sea Eagle
Bird Family :Accipitrinae - Hawks, Bazas, Honey-buzzards, Eagles, Kites, Vultures, Harriers & Buzzards
Bird Group :CICONIIFORMES
Red Data Status :Least Concern
Remarks :I saw this rather unusual situation; a Brahminy Kite had caught a prey and was attempting to feed on it on the ground. Four Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) had ‘surrounded’ it and were watching intently, hoping to gain access to the prey as well (possible group Kleptoparasitism). They did not seem afraid of the raptor and were interrupting its feeding. It is possible that the prey caught was too big to carry away.
