Location :Fragment of Sinharaja disconnected from reserve, Badureliya, Kalutara District, Western Province, Sri Lanka
Date : 19 July 2015
English synonyms:Ceylon Spurfowl, Sri Lanka Spurfowl
Bird Family :Phasianidae - Partridges, Chukar, Francolins, Quails, Spurfowl, Pheasants, Tragopans, Monals, Junglefowl, Arguses, Peafowl, Grouse, Ptarmigans & Capercaillies
Red Data Status :Least Concern
Remarks :Generally spurfowl pairs do not admit a third, except here - this bird was in close association with a female that appeared to feed it. This bird also appeared slightly smaller than the male female pair with which it was associated - they remained together. High pitched clucking kept the party of 3 together with furtive feeding just outside dense cover. Note duller plumage and greyish features on face, less bright than a female that has a more rufous face and bill. - RD
Taxonomic Notes :Monotypic species endemic to Sri Lanka.
