Taxonomic Notes :Monotypic species formerly considered conspecific with Blue-and-white Flycatcher Cyanoptila cyanomelana. Breeds in central China.

Note that the name cumatilis was previously incorrectly ascribed to the taxon now known as Cyanoptila cyanomelana intermedia.

On present knowledge it is not possible to safely separate females and most immatures of C. cyanomelana and C. cumatilis away from the breeding grounds and out of the breeding season. Photographs of such birds are filed under C. cyanomelana for convenience and reference.
