Date : 9 January 2017
English synonyms:Yellow Bunting, Eurasian Yellow Bunting, Yellowhammer Bunting
Bird Family :Emberizini - Buntings & Allies

Remarks :A single bird was seen in cultivated fields along with Pine Buntings, Bramblings, Chaffinches and Rock Buntings. Around 1000-1500 Common Wood Pigeons were also there in those fields. It was seen again on 13 Jan 2016 in same area.

Note the absence of prominent markings and yellow tinge on head, small bill, yellowish throat and belly with chestnut and dark streaking.

It is a winter vagrant to India. It was first recorded from India when a single male was found at Tikse near Leh in the trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh in December 1981 (Williams & Delany 1986; Mallon 1987; Pfister 2004). Den Besten (2004b) gives unconfirmed and undated records of two birds at 12001300 masl from the Dhauladhar range around Dharamshala, observed between 1997 and 2003. I found it in Dharamsala in 2012 and published it along with Mr Manoj Sharma and D.S.Dhadwal. A couple of images are there in OBI from Uttarakhand.
