Location :Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia
Date : 27 March 2017
English synonyms:Pacific Reef-Egret, Eastern Reef-heron, Eastern Reef-egret, Pacific Reef-heron, Eastern Reef Egret, Eastern Reef Heron, Pacific Reef Heron, Reef Egret, Reef Heron, Blue Heron, White Heron, Sacred Heron, White Reef-heron, White Reef Heron
Bird Family :Ardeidae - Egrets, Herons & Bitterns
Bird Group :CICONIIFORMES
Red Data Status :Least Concern
Remarks :Legs are described as variable, mainly yellow to greenish with bright yellow soles [Martínez-Vilalta et al (2017) HBW]. But the majority I saw in breeding plumage had bright orange soles. You can spot this even when resting if looking carefully as the under-surface/soles. I suspect it is often missed. Wells (1999) states that “Howes 1896 report a dark bird with orange-yellow feet, a possible breeding colour”.
